Corica – Rodwell’s chance to shine

Steve Corica expects Jack Rodwell will shine in the Sydney FC back line in the second half of the season.

Rodwell was outstanding in the victory over Newcastle Jets at the weekend and is ready to back that up with another big performance against Wellington this Saturday at Allianz Stadium.

Corica said: “I think Jack showed how defensively good he is against the Jets.

“He’s aggressive, he’s quick, he’s got a great touch on the ball and he can help build the play up.

“Jack is a great leader and hopefully he can build on that performance and the more games he plays, the better he will get.”

After a solid defensive performance in Newcastle, Steve Corica’s side jumped five places to sit back inside the top six, notching their first clean sheet of the season.

With the table so congested, the Head Coach knows that form during this period is vital to maintaining that top half position.

The next game for us is the most important one.

“We need to build from this and gain consistency in our performances and our results,” Corica said.

Just eight points separate 2nd and 2nd bottom in the Isuzu UTE A-League and every team is jostling for position following the festive fixture list.

“Any team that goes on a run is going to climb the table. If we get another win like that next week then we will keep building momentum.”
