Corica buoyed by recent performances

As Sydney FC prepare to head up the M1 to face the Central Coast Mariners, the Sky Blues will be looking to build on the impressive performance against league leaders Melbourne City which handed the Victorians their first defeat of the season. It was a dominant 90 minutes from Steve Corica’s men and the three points was just reward for the hard work that they put in over the break.

Coming into this weekend, a trip up to the Mariners brings with it high expectation with the Mariners home form few and far between. For Steve Corica, he will be looking for his side to build on the Celtic and Melbourne City victories.

“I was really happy with the performance that we put in against Melbourne City on Saturday. No team has been able to get close to them this season and I think we really showed our quality against a good team” Corica said.

“I think it is clear to see that we have the ability to put in performances like we did against Celtic and Melbourne City. Our challenge now is to be consistent and maintain the high standards that the boys have set.

“This weekend provides the perfect opportunity to continue that form against a good team with a lot of attacking threats” Corica said.

In the last A-League meeting between the two sides, Sydney FC had a ruthless performance against the Mariners running out 5-0 winners with Adam Le Fondre netting a hat-trick in Gosford. This time around, Le Fondre scored the winner last week and Corica will be hoping for more of the same on Saturday afternoon

“It was great to have Alfie [Adam Le Fondre] back from his injury and you could see that he was hungry for goals as soon as he came on. I’m happy that he got on the scoresheet too and he is keen to do the same this weekend.

“With the return of Robert Mak and Pat Yazbek from illness, we are in a good place coming into this match.

“Regardless of their form, they will be coming out of the blocks very fast and we need to be ready and expect it” Corica concluded.
