With his side sitting clear on top of the Hyundai A-League table and the player himself enjoying career best form no-one at Sydney FC currently has more reason to smile than central defender Simon Colosimo.
“I-m just enjoying it,” he said after his side-s last home session before Friday-s clash with Adelaide. “I had a good pre-season and I think that makes a big difference and its fun being around the club.”
Confidence is sky high in the Sky Blues- camp after their commanding win over Melbourne last week but Colosimo and his teammates are focused on continuing that momentum and claiming another three points this week against the Reds.
“Adelaide are one of the stayers. They haven-t been playing great but they-re still there or there abouts,” said Colosimo. “They are a good team – a disciplined team. They play a lot like we do – very, very disciplined in defence. They work hard at breaking forward and creating good chances.”
Keen to play down talk of a Qantas Socceroos recall, Colosimo is focused on maintaining his current form but he acknowledged that it-s nice to be back on the international radar.
“It-s one of those things that are out of my control. I don-t want to waste any energy on anything like that. I have in the past and its cost my form, week in week out. Now I-m here just to play and play well and if the opportunity arises then I-ll see where I-m at. If it doesn-t, so be it.”
Colosimo-s contribution to Sydney-s recent success was acknowledged by his Coach, with Viteszlav Lavicka backing the 30-year old to continue his impressive season.
“Simon is a very important part of our team of course. He-s (the) conductor our defence. (He is) good character, good person, important player,” said Lavicka. “I think Socceroos is a good target for Shimi (Simon) and for the other players as well. I wish him, and all players, try and reach this target.”
Colosimo will again lead Sydney-s defence when the Sky Blues face Adelaide in round-11 of the Hyundai A-League at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night.
