MATCH REPORT
Sydney FC share the spoils in a nil all draw against Brisbane Roar away from home.
Sydney FC made five changes in new Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo’s first game in charge.
Socceroo Paul Okon came back from international duty onto the bench while Wataru Kamijo, Rhys Youlley, Jordan Courtney-Perkins, Al Hassan Toure and Tiago Quintal all came into the starting line-up.
Sydney FC started the first half with a strong defensive showing as Brisbane Roar held possession and put pressure on the Sky Blue’ defenders.
The Sky Blues begin to gain momentum towards the end of the first half with Quintal and Garuccio working well together in the 25th minute to drive into Brisbane Roar’s box.
The 33rd and 35th minute of the game saw Al Hassan-Toure score back-to-back offside goals after doing well to beat his defenders, however, the mistimed runs see the first half conclude with the scoreboard 0-0 at half time.
The second half saw possession shared with both teams chasing an opening goal. The 57th minute saw Devenish-Meares deny Brisbane a goal after Hore found O’Shea in the box one on one against the Sydney FC keeper.
Devenish-Meares continued his hot streak in the 74th minute by closing down the angle after Vidic received the ball in front of goal to shoot, following a smart through ball from Hore.
A free kick played quickly in the 78’ minute is struck on target by McGarry to the right of Devenish-Meares, however some quick thinking and an impressive dive sees the keeper palm the ball away to keep the scoreline unchanged.
The 0-0 draw sees Patrick Kisnorbo and his new starting lineup secure a point for Sydney FC and continue the Sky Blues on their path to the finals.
WHAT THEY SAID: HARRISON DEVENISH-MEARES
“We tried to play on the ground and use our pace in behind, and I think we hurt them at times in that sense. We just couldn’t find that final pass or execution.
“I just want the three points … I just want to win games. This team has so much quality and I think we should be getting better results.
“We just have to keep fighting, keep working every week, and keep building on what we’re doing.”
