Sydney FC’s pre-season trip to Italy is a new adventure for the club and the A-League. It is a wonderful opportunity to ‘spread the word’ of the A-League; and there’s no doubt that we’re ambassadors not just for the club but also for football in Australia and for Sydney. The exposure is fantastic.

I would like to thank the City of Jesolo for their fantastic and generous support. We know that this is thanks to the high esteem in which Alessandro is held – but that is one of the reasons we wanted him to be part of our club in the first place. Even so, it’s quite incredible to see the extent of the ‘ADP mania’ over here and to realise how much he is loved.
It’s fair to say that, even though all of we Socceroo fans have our favourite players of yesteryear and today, I doubt that we’d line-up for hours on end for an autograph after a friendly match.
As well as the games here, Frank Farina has other pre-season matches planned back home. The trip here has given all squad members an opportunity for game time, and to press their claims. I am confident that we’ll go into the season as a much more battle-hardened outfit than we were last season.
I’m sure you’ve all heard of our latest signing, Richard Garcia, who joins us from Melbourne Heart. Prior to that, Richie spent 13 seasons in England, including five in the Premier League with West Ham United and Hull City.
Away from on-field issues, the off-season has been both busy and encouraging.
It has been wonderful to confirm the support of Webjet and Destination NSW for another two years, as well as welcome new sponsors, Metcash Food and Grocery (IGA), StarTrack and Nick Scali Furniture.
Membership has passed the 7,500 mark and we’re still aiming for 10,000. There’s no doubt that we’re in a highly competitive marketing with Western Sydney Wanderers and Central Coast Mariners. Not only do we want to see existing members renew, but welcome new members also.
We have some great membership packages available which are detailed here. Whether you’re from north, south, east or west, we’re happy to welcome you!
If you want to raise anything with me directly, please don’t hesitate to info@sydneyfc.com or tweet me at @tpignata9.
Until next time!
Tony
