Saturday afternoon is the culmination of over 13 months of training and hard work, as we complete the 2019/20 regular season at home against Western United.
It’s been an interesting season with plenty of twists and turns, and to have emerged through the COVID pandemic to complete the season is a testament to the club and the league in itself.
It’s great to be back at Leichhardt Oval as well, and to have our Members and fans in attendance for such a historic afternoon.
All the boys enjoy playing at Leichhardt, the pitch is always good and with the stands so close to the field you get a really great atmosphere generated – and that’s something all players feed off and will no doubt drive us on for the three points.
Our second half performance against Brisbane Roar was a glimpse at what we can produce when we’re on song, if we continue to perform like that and build on that performance, come Finals time I don’t think anyone can stop us.
Saturday is also a crowning moment for Sydney FC, as we pick up our record-breaking fourth Hyundai A-League Premiers Plate.
It’s a monumental achievement and shows just how successful Sydney FC have been in recent seasons, and why we’re the dominant force in the Hyundai A-League.
To have captained this team to a title in my first season with the armband is an honour, and I can’t wait to lift that plate aloft in front of our Members and fans whose unwavering support has guided us through all these tough times.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in attendance on Saturday afternoon, and reveling in our successes for one last time in Season 2019/20 before we get stuck into the Finals Series and go after a record fifth Hyundai A-League Championship.
I’ll see you all at Leichhardt on Saturday, stay safe!
Alex
