Sydney FC Captain Alex Brosque has praised the character of the Sky Blues ahead of their trip to Pirtek Stadium on Saturday for the second Sydney Derby of the season (kick off 7:30pm).
Brosque, who is in line to play his first derby at Parramatta, said confidence is high within the playing group, with Sydney FC yet to lose a match, and is comforted by the manner with which the Sky Blues have been achieving results recently.
“At the moment we’re winning, we’re finding ways to win games,” Brosque said.
“We were down two nil last time against them and found a way to come back and we showed good character against them.
“If we can keep doing what we’ve been doing and make sure we get the three points then it really shows the character and how far we’ve come as a club in the last 12 months.
“There’s a lot of confidence around the camp at the moment and I think not having lost a game is a big reason for that,” he continued.
“You obviously want to be peaking come March, April and May next year and in the meantime while you’re working towards it you want to be picking up results and the way we have been doing it is very comforting to know.”
While the Wanderers are sitting last on the ladder, and yet to win a game, Brosque stressed that current form doesn’t matter when it comes to a derby match as he said he expects a fierce atmosphere at Pirtek Stadium.
“Ladder position when it comes to derby matches like this means nothing,” he said.
“Yes they’ve only got two points at the moment but they could very well come out and play like a team who is top of the table and that’s what we’re expecting.
“We can’t take them lightly because at the end of the day they are Asian Champions and they deserve a lot of respect.
“In saying that we’re playing well and playing particularly well away from home and we need to make sure we continue doing that and continue worrying about ourselves and not them,” he continued.
“By all reports it’s a very hostile place to go and play. I’m looking forward to it, it’ll be my first game at Parramatta and I’m sure it’ll be an exciting one.”
