Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka has named striker Alex Brosque in a 17-man squad for this Sunday-s Hyundai A-League clash against the Newcastle Jets at EnergyAustralia Stadium (5pm-kick-off).
Brosque, who sustained a groin injury whilst on Qantas Socceroos duty in early January, missed the Sky Blues last two matches against Perth Glory and Gold Coast United, but has been declared fit and will make the trip up the F3.
“It is always hard to watch from the sidelines. It was a frustrating loss last week but we are very hungry to turn that around against Newcastle,” Brosque said.
“I have had a good week at training so it will be great to back out on the park again. I was feeling good late last week but we gave it another weeks rest and I am ready to go.”
The head-to-head ledger between the two sides stands at one win apiece in season 2009/10.
The Jets will have home ground advantage for the first time this season as both of the previous matches were played at the SFS however Sydney FC holds a five-to-one head-to-head record in Newcastle.
“It was a good wakeup call when they beat us 3-1 last time. We spoke about it and on their (Newcastle) day they are a very good side,” Brosque said.
“They have run into some very good form and we need to be 100% on our game and bounce back well if we are going to get the points.
“We have checked out how they attack and defend and defensively they are very well organised, they get a lot of numbers back and make it difficult to attack against them and they play a real counter attacking game.
“They have some quality players. Michael Bridges holds the ball up well and can create something out of nothing. Players like Rooney, Haliti and Song run off him well.
“They get forward as a team well. They are very solid at the back.”
“If the Gold Coast doesn-t get the points tonight we will be challenging for top spot again and that is where we want to be.”
Sydney FC travel to Newcastle tomorrow morning and will hold a training session at EnergyAustralia Stadium at 5pm.
