Marquee man Brett Emerton says he can-t wait for the next showdown with Brisbane as he turns his attention to facing Perth at Campbelltown on Wednesday evening.
The Socceroo star believes the rivalry created by the Roar-s late goals and showdown at the final whistle will make for real excitement next time they meet.
“I think rivalry in football is a very healthy thing,” said the Sydney midfielder.
“With Melbourne and Adelaide there-s rivalry there, and I think now there-ll be rivalry between Sydney and Brisbane.
“I welcome it. I think it-s entertaining for the fans to watch and I think it-s going to make for an exciting game next time around.”
A veteran of two World Cup Finals and English Premier League player for ten seasons, Emerton will finally return to play at his roots on Wednesday night, (5.30pm kick off) having been born and raised in the Campbelltown area.
“I think the motivation is definitely there for us to go out and put in another good performance,” he said.
“Everyone is disappointed and frustrated about what happened in the last few minutes the other night [vs Brisbane] but we-ll use that in a positive way to spur us on and hopefully for the rest of the season as well.”
