Sydney FC midfielder Josh Brillante says the Sky Blues are out to make Allianz Stadium a fortress as they gear up for their first home clash of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday (kick off 7pm).
Following the Sky Blues record breaking Membership announcement, Brillante said it was pleasing to have so many supporters behind him as he praised the new members of the squad on the pitch.
“We’re looking to do the same thing [this season], make it [Allianz Stadium] a fortress,” Brillante said.
“Every home game we want to make sure no one can beat us and we want to have teams worried when they come to play us.
“It’s an awesome feeling to see supporters get behind us with record breaking Memberships. We’re hoping throughout the year more Members come along [too].
“Wellington had a tough game and did well, we’re expecting another tough match on Sunday, but the pitch is looking great and we’re excited.
“The new players have been great for us and shown some exciting stuff so we’re looking forward to seeing them cause some damage [also].”
Reflecting on the Sky Blues progression to the Westfield FFA Cup Final for a second consecutive year, Brillante said all eyes were on securing the only major domestic trophy still to be won by Sydney FC.
“It’s huge for us [to make the Final],” he said.
“Last year we made the Final and didn’t quite get it so we’re expecting this year to bring home some silverware in the FFA Cup.”
Sydney FC take on Wellington Phoenix at Allianz Stadium on Sunday 15 October in their first home clash of the 2017/18 season (kick off 7pm AEDT). Catch the match live on Fox Sports or follow @SydneyFC on Twitter for updates.
