Alessandro Del Piero, Tiago Calvano and Mitch Mallia came out on top as the Sky Blues squad kept up their post season fitness with a spot of beach football.

The first team, including Socceroos captain Lucas Neill, headed down to Tamarama beach the the 3 v 3 tournament organised by former Australian international Sky Blue striker David Zdrilic.

Zdrilic brought his own team which included Sydney FC coach Steve Corica, goalkeeping coach Davide Del Giovine and current number 1 Ivan Necevski.

However despite making the final they lost out to the Blue team containing the Italian, the Brazilian and the young Aussie.

“I was pretty lucky I had Del Piero and Tiago on my team, so I just hung back and provided cover and let them work their magic,” said Mallia.

“It-s very difficult, you can get used to it when you step into the holes [in the sand] but it-s very heavy on your legs and it-s also a bit of fun as well.

“Tiago impressed me today. I know he-s very good with his ball skills. I think he-s got a decent career there after football.”
