Barrett Pleased With Firing Forward Line

As the pointy end of the season draws near, Westfield W-League Head Coach Dan Barrett said he’s thrilled to have his forward line firing and he’s hoping that form continues in Sunday’s clash against the Brisbane Roar at Central Coast Stadium (kick off 2pm).

With forwards Kyah Simon and Jasmyne Spencer scoring 5 goals between them in their previous three clashes, Barrett said he’s pleased to see their work rate in training transpiring into game day situations.

“I’m extremely pleased to see the girls firing now,” Barrett said.

“To be honest the chances were always being created but the finish just wasn’t coming off. Both girls are generally marked pretty tightly each week and we have worked hard to address this.

“As a result of this work, combined with obviously the high ability of both players, the goals are going in from both Kyah [Simon] and Jazzy [Jasmyne Spencer] and personally I’m extremely happy for both of them.

“The most impressive thing this season has been our ability to create goal scoring chances,” he continued.

“This is what makes this team a draw card to come out and watch play. The team have the ability to remain patient enough to build the opportunity and then pick the moment to execute and I’m a massive fan of our combination play.”

Barrett has put the spate of positive results in recent rounds down to the girls’ defensive structure as he said it’s been a fundamental part of his training sessions this season.

“Our defence has improved dramatically,” he said.

“We have worked hard raising the bar in this department. It sets our platform and helps us build momentum and confidence.

“Our attitude to protect our goal and win the ball back quickly has been a game changer and an integral part of our team’s success this season.”
