Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold has praised the character of his squad ahead of their Hyundai A-League clash against Brisbane Roar on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium (kick of 8pm AEDT).
The Sky Blues are set to face the defending Champions who have lost their opening two Hyundai A-League matches, however Arnold believes the Roar are still a very tough prospect and he believes they’ll be out to prove a point after their start to the season.
“The one thing I’m extremely happy with, this team of players has a great character,” he said.
“It’s shown in their comebacks over the last couple of games but also how they take on board how to be adaptable tactically.
“I think they [Brisbane Roar] are still a very good football team and I still think that they are the bench mark. I analysed the Perth game last week and they’re nearly there where they were last year,” he continued.
“It’s going to be a real tough challenge because obviously they’ve lost the first two games, they’re going to be hurting and they’re going to want to give their fans something to cheer about.”
Arnold stressed the point of performing from start to finish as he confirmed that the Sky Blues squad will be fresh and fit after completing 120 minutes in their extra-time defeat to Adelaide United in the Westfield FFA Cup quarter finals on Tuesday night.
“We’ve got to make sure from the first minute that we go out with the right attitude and desire,” Arnold said.
“We need to make sure from the first minute until the 90th minute that we’re on our game.
“I had one eye on the Brisbane game so if I look at the starting line-up for tomorrow there’s probably only one or two who played the full game against Adelaide so we do have the numbers and we are fresh.
“I expect a very good performance tomorrow night.”
