Sydney FC-s Foxtel National Youth League goalkeeper Tristan Prendergast says he can still improve his game as the young Sky Blues continue to push towards a National Youth League title.
The Young Sky Blues currently sit first with an 11 point margin ahead of their closest competitors, Melbourne Victory, and Prendergast has drawn plaudits for his string of recent performances in which he has kept four clean sheets in his previous four games.
“I-m really confident in the way we are playing and how strong we are at the back,” Tristan said.
“I don-t just base myself on how the team went. I always want to improve myself. A clean sheet is always good but I always look at how I play and where I can improve and go on each week.
“I-m feeling pretty confident so far, it-s definitely helped keeping those four clean sheets in a row but credit to the defence as well because I can-t do all the work. They-ve definitely helped me out,” he continued.
“I-d put our recent good performances down to teamwork. We-ve bonded really well as a team. The back four hasn-t changed really throughout the season so we-ve got to know how each other play.”
The Young Sky Blues have scored 41 goals in 12 games thus far and Tristan was always confident that Steve Corica-s side could produce such displays of dominance; however he was quick to dismiss the thought that the squad are already champions elect.
“I definitely thought the team was capable of scoring like we have been,” Tristan said.
“If you look at our front three that have been playing for us Mitch Mallia has been in great goal scoring form, we-ve got Alec [Urosevski] and even [Chris] Naumoff.
“Most of them have had first team experience so it-s really no surprise that they-ve been performing for us and scoring consistently,” he continued.
“We-ve still got a few more games to win before it-s ours. As a group we all want to win every game, we don-t want to drop off and think it-s ours already.
“You-ve got to keep working. We-ve got two tough games away in Melbourne the next two weekends so we got to focus on going down there, playing well, and getting the three points.”
