Sydney FC Hall Of Fame inductee and 2020 double winning Captain Alex Wilkinson is to become the club’s new Head of Football Operations.

The Socceroos World Cup defender will combine the responsibility of looking after the club’s football operations with recruitment processes and will act as a mentor to ensure youth team players transition successfully into the A-League.

Wilkinson will also advise on defensive coaching responsibilities and moves into the newly created role immediately.

Wilkinson is in the closing stages of obtaining an MBA and will leverage his qualifications along with his experience as PFA President, by also contributing to the club’s commercial business.

“I’m excited to begin and looking forward to helping lead this club into a new and successful period in our history,” he said.

“I’m delighted to be staying at the place I enjoyed the most successful and enjoyable part of my career and I hope I can become just as successful in this new appointment.”
