Sydney FC has re-signed Liberty A-League forward Abbey Lemon on a two-year contract after a break-through year for the former Young Matildas striker.
The 21-year old has made 18 appearances in Sky Blue this season including 10 starts, and scored her first Sydney FC goal against Western United at Leichhardt Oval last month.
Lemon is delighted to be continuing in Sky Blue and is looking forward to being part of the squad for this Sunday’s semi-final first leg clash with Central Coast Mariners in Gosford.
“I’m thrilled to be extending my contract for another two years,” she said.
“I love this team and the environment that’s been created at Sydney FC.
“The quality and competitiveness at training is so high and has helped me grow so much as a player and a person, so I’m really excited to continue my journey and development at this club.
“I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else,” she continued.
“Right now all our focus is on the finals over the next few weeks. I’m excited and eager to help the girls defend our Championship.”
Lemon plays predominantly as a forward, however has done an excellent job for the squad filling in at full back and other parts of the field to cover for injury and international commitments.
“Abbey has done extremely well this season and with that we are extremely happy that she will be staying at the club,” said Head Coach Ante Juric.
“She has worked hard on her game and is a player that always gives her best, and it has shown in her performances over the season.
“She will be integral to our squad over the next two years and in the next few weeks when we look to win back to back Championships.”
Lemon joins Captain Natalie Tobin in re-signing for the next two seasons.
The Young Matildas U-20 Women’s World Cup player spent a season playing for Spanish Primera Division club Levante in 2022 before returning to Australia to join Sydney FC at the start of last season.
