Sydney FC-s Westfield W-League defender Amy Harrison is expecting another tense rivalry encounter with the Western Sydney Wanderers when the two sides clash at Campbelltown Stadium on Sunday (kick off 3pm).
The Sky Blue Ladies currently sit first on 23 points and need to only win the remaining two games to clinch the Premier-s Plate, however Harrison knows it will be tough, especially when the previous game ended in a tight 4-3 victory for Sydney FC.
“I-m expecting a good fight from the Wanderers,” she said.
“It-s always a tough game against them especially being cross town rivals and there is always a lot at stake.
“With players from each club moving around there is always a bit of rivalry playing against your former team mates and friends so I think they-re going to come out firing,” she continued.
“They-ve got nothing to lose any more so they-ll just come out and try to beat their rivals.”
With the season drawing to a close and the squad leading the ladder it would be easy to be distracted by the thought of clinching the Premiership but Harrison has expelled that thought and is taking everything on a game by game basis.
“Obviously in the back of our minds is the premiership and we want to win it,” she continued.
“But I think we-re just trying to take it one game at a time and just trying to stay focussed now, not getting too carried away.
“Every team wants to make that final and win the grand final. It was an amazing experience last year and we want to do that again.
“I don-t think any team has backed it up so backing it up would be a really good achievement.”
The Sky Blue Ladies season has been excellent thus far, with the squad only losing one game.
Harrison has seen a turn in her own fortunes as she has found more game time this season.
“It-s been a really good season not only for myself but for the team.
“I think we-ve all learnt a lot from the Japan tour and we-ve all bonded really well.
“It-s been an amazing experience for me, still being the young one in the team, especially coming off last season where I only got a spot for one game.
“I-ve only missed one game this season so I think it-s been a really good personal season for myself.
“Hopefully success still comes with the premiership and the finals this season.”
