2017 winner ready to make more Allianz history

Ahead of Saturday’s Australia Cup Final, goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne would like to add the 2023 Australia Cup alongside his 2017 triumph.

Redmayne is the only member of the squad who played that night at Allianz Stadium when the Sky Blues overcame Adelaide United to win the 2017 FFA Cup in extra time.

“It’s going to be amazing having another final at Allianz and being back there as well.

“The boys are up for it and have been firing on all cylinders and we know what we need to do to win,” the shot-stopper said.

“We have really upped the intensity this season and we have a lot more youthful energy in the squad but also a lot more depth.

“It’s exciting looking at the team in front of me and I am really looking forward to seeing the boys in action on Allianz and hopefully there’s a strong Cove voice and home crowd to cheer us on,” he added.

Since the last match at Allianz Stadium in May, the Sky Blues have added multiple new faces to the squad, including two Brazilians and Jordan Courtney-Perkins.

And the Sydney FC number one has been really impressed with the attitude of the new arrivals.

“They’ve certainly added some personality to the squad even though they have limited English and it’s been fantastic to see them integrate so well.

“On the pitch they are both quality players, this includes Jordan as well. It’s scary to think he’s only 20 years old as he feels like a seasoned player already,” Redmayne said.

“We have addd some depth as well and I think we have a great squad on paper and it’s just a matter of pulling ourselves together on Saturday night and hopefully we can bring home some silverware.”

And while five years ago, looking back at the 2017 victory for inspiration may provide a small added advantage.

“There’s not too much you can take from a game back in 2017 especially the squad turnover since then, but we were on the Allianz pitch that night, and it has been good to us in Cup Finals in the past.

“Looking back, we dominated large parts of the game and they scored through one unbelievable shot, so hopefully we can do the same this time around and dominate the game.

“And hopefully we don’t have to go to extra time,” he joked.
