Sydney FC Westfield W-League Champion Ally Green slept rough on Monday night for charity as she took part in The Chappell Foundation ‘Sports Star Sleepout’ at the SCG.
Joining athletes from all codes, Green described the experience as eye opening as she went through what thousands of those less fortunate go through each night in Sydney.
With only two pieces of cardboard and a rudimentary meal, it was a sleepless night for many, but all for a good cause.
“We were out for the night on the cold, dewy and wet grass,” Green said.
“We were given a plastic sheet to put on the grass, and two cardboard sheets to lay on top of. We then got served one cup of soup and a bread roll for dinner, trying to replicate the types of dinners most homeless get if they’re lucky.
“The experience was eye opening, definitely something no one should have to experience every night,” she continued.
“Especially being young myself, I really felt for the youth, that who most of the time have no choice but to leave their homes.
“It made me want to help even more and I’m incredibly lucky to have so many people donate to help fundraise for this cause.”
Green has set herself the target of raising $3,000 and is well on her way already, with $1,800 raised ahead of the sleepout.
