Sydney FC’s Foxtel Y-League squad ran out deserved 2-0 winners against Central Coast Mariners at the Centre of Excellence in Tuggerah on Sunday.
Sydney FC created the best opportunities in the first period with Charles Lokoli-Ngoy and Cameron Devlin being denied by the Mariners keeper following one on one chances with only the custodian to beat.
The deadlock was broken in the 51st minute when Luke Ivanovic drove into the penalty area and cut the ball back into a crowded area for an own goal deflection by the Mariners centre back, Michael Glassock.
Sydney FC continued to look the more likely and were rewarded in the 77st minute as Lokoli-Ngoy broke through the middle before releasing Devlin on the left side. The midfielder had some work to do as he dribbled around two defenders and the keeper before squaring his pass for an unmarked Marco Tilio to slot into the back of the net for 2-0.
The Sky Blues had to see out the last few minutes with ten men after Jacob Tratt received his marching orders with a red card for collecting two yellow cards, however they were able to keep their third clean sheet in four matches.
The Young Sky Blues now head Conference B at the half way point of the season with a superior goal difference over cross town rivals WSW.
Both teams sit on nine points with Sydney FC having a +7 goal difference compared to +4 for Wanderers.
Next Sunday the Sky Blues head to the nations capital as they face Canberra United at Deakin Stadium 4:30pm kick off.
