As part of the Hyundai A-League’s Harmony Day celebrations in Round 23, this Saturday 17th March Sydney FC will look to celebrate with long term charity partner Football United, at Allianz Stadium.
Recognised on 21 March each year, Harmony Day celebrates inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging within our communities.
Since 2008 the Sky Blues and Football United have joined forces to celebrate diversity and the achievements of the Football United programs, and Saturday will be no different as 100 Football United youth ambassadors march across the pitch in a flag parade, prior to kick off. The Australian Federal Police has also engaged as a key partner for this year’s harmonious celebrations.
Established in 2006, Football United creates chances for youth from disadvantaged communities through the magic of football with programs aimed at engaging and inspiring youth to develop life skills and building leadership. Football United provides opportunities for young people to celebrate and embrace their identify through inspiring events such as this.

Alex Brosque joins Common Goal
The Sky Blues and Football United have enjoyed a rich partnership for ten years, in which time milestones have been achieved. Football United Ambassador and Sydney FC captain Alex Brosque, became the first southern hemisphere Common Goal team member, by announcing his commitment and pledge in October 2017 to donate 1% of his salary to football for good projects around the world and challenging his peers to do the same.
“Football United is such a great organisation they do so many fantastic things for kids that come from other countries and look to use football to unite them all,” said Sydney FC captain Alex Brosque.
Female Football Week
This year’s Female Football Week celebrations will recognise the important role women play in enhancing the game for all. The Sydney FC Harmony Round match will be the culmination of a week-long ‘Sportswomen for Change Leadership Forum’ bringing together women from Arab nations to connect with Australian women who use sport to drive positive social change in their respective communities. Delegates will support the delivery of a multicultural girls’ gala day at the state of the art facilities at Valentine Sportspark with Football NSW, Sydney FC and GoActive (LMA), supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Council for Australian-Arab Relations.
Football for Hope
The Sky Blues Midfielder, Josh Brillante, won’t be the only Sydney-sider travelling to Russia if successful on his recent Socceroos call up, as four participants from Football United programs will be flying to Moscow for the FIFA Football for Hope Festival. Football for Hope is FIFA’s social engagement program to harness the game’s huge potential and support existing football-based community projects.
Sydney FC are delighted to continue developing the positive and strong partnership with Football United and are looking forward to welcoming their youth, staff and volunteers at this week’s match.
