Sydney FC are riding a wave of momentum into Sunday’s Westfield W-League Grand Final against Melbourne City at Allianz Stadium.

In the 10th season of the Westfield W-League, two of the competition’s most successful clubs face-off in what promises to be a thrilling decider.

Ahead of the big clash, we’ve come up with four reasons why it will be the Sky Blues holding the trophy aloft come full-time on Sunday.

HOTTEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE RIGHT NOW

Since losing their opening three matches of the season, the Sky Blues have gone on an incredible run to get to the final match of the campaign.

Ante Juric’s side have gone 10 games without defeat – with only one draw in that run – and came through a tough test in the semi-final against the Jets.

The Sky Blues also lead the charge with the most goals scored throughout the season (29), ensuring they are full of confidence.

HAVE A SQUAD FULL OF TALENT AND INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

You only have to take a quick scan through the Sky Blues roster to see why they are featuring on Sunday.

Imports like keeper Aubrey Bledsoe and US international defender Emily Sonnett have been a revelation, joining the likes of Westfield Matildas Lisa De Vanna and Chloe Logarzo, the experience of Kylie Ledbrook and Caitlin Cooper and young stars Princess Ibini and Remy Siemsen.

DOING IT FOR THEIR INJURED STARS

Just a year after making her comeback from a serious knee injury, seeing star midfielder Amy Harrison suffer another ACL tear earlier in the campaign – and another long stint on the sidelines – is sure to add further motivation for the Sky Blues players.

Add to that the absence of Caitlin Foord, who underwent surgery this week for a foot injury suffered in the semi-final, and Sydney FC would love nothing more than to cheer those two up with a winner’s medal.

INSPIRED BY THE EXPLOITS OF THE MEN’S TEAM

Sydney FC has been the dominant force in the Hyundai A-League over the last 18 months and the women’s side will want to add to the club’s ever-expanding trophy cabinet.

What better way for the club to live up to their tag as being the ‘biggest club in the country’ than by holding both the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League championship trophies.
