Fresh from her brace against the Wanderers, we caught up with Sky Blue youngster Remy Siemsen to get her take on the #SydneyDerby win and what’s ahead in the Westfield W-League 2017/18 season.
Good win on Saturday!
It was very pleasing, always good to win the derby.
Two goals for yourself, how pleased were you with that?
I was really happy to bag two goals on the weekend. I was looking to get the hattrick but just to get on the scoresheet was something I was aiming for and to do that made me really really happy.
Second season in the W-League now, how much are you enjoying it?
I’m really loving it [playing in the W-League], the W-League is so much fun. I loved last season but it’s so good to be back again, playing for Sydney FC, and now we’ve hit some really good form and we’re winning games and playing good football so it’s been enjoyable. We’re looking for a finals spot now.
From the first season I didn’t have any expectation on myself, but now I put a lot on myself to perform and score goals. Now I’m just really enjoying my football and I think that’s when I play at my best. I’ve found this season a lot easier than last season, the jump from NPL to W-League was a bit of a jump but this year it was easier to get back into the swing of things.
Three wins in a row now, where to from here?
I think we’re only going to grow from here. We’re all pretty motivated to keep the winning streak going. We’re going to do whatever we can to reach a finals spot and win the Championship. We’re only to get bigger and better from here.
How does this season’s team compare to last season’s?
Last season’s team was great but this season’s team is just as good and once we clicked we’ve been unstoppable. Both teams I’ve played in have both had really great players, I’ve been learning a lot from the Matildas.
Canberra this Friday at Allianz Stadium, always a tough game?
Canberra has always been a tough game, they’ve got some really good players, but we’re going to be focussing on finishing our chances and getting those three points.
Playing on the bigger fields, at the bigger stadiums, how are you finding that?
I love it [playing on the bigger pitches and at Allianz Stadium]. Playing at ANZ Stadium on the weekend was pretty cool. I really enjoy it, the fields are nice to play on and I’m really looking forward to Friday.
In to the second half of the season now, what goals have you set yourself?
Win each week, work hard for the team and make an impact with the team and do everything we can to reach the finals, score a few more goals and help the girls in any way I can.
