The depth of Sydney FC-s squad is about to face another test with off-season recruit, Simon Colosimo ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a groin injury.

The 29-year-old has been diagnosed with Osteitis Pubis and has attempted to manage the condition during the opening rounds, but will now undergo surgery to correct the problem.

“It-s disappointing to lose a player of Simon-s quality for any length of time,” said Sydney coach, John Kosmina. “He-s an important player for us but I think we-ve already shown this season we-ve got enough talent in the team to get the job done during his absence.”

The former Perth Glory captain will have surgery next Tuesday but he-s already looking ahead to his return to the field.

“It-s frustrating,” said Colosimo. “No player wants to spend time sitting on the sidelines but it-s a problem I need to have fixed.”

“My focus now is on getting fit and getting back on the field as soon as possible to help Sydney win another championship.”

John Kosmina is currently considering his options and may look to bring in an injury replacement for the Socceroo midfielder.
