Not so long ago Sydney and Adelaide were the form sides of the competition but times have been tough for the two teams in recent weeks.
FC fell to an upset defeat in its last-start at home against the Wellington Phoenix and has slipped to fourth on the ladder, mid-way through the season.
The Asian Champions- League finalists have gone down in their last two Hyundai A-League matches, most recently suffering a 3-nil defeat on the road against the Central Coast Mariners, but Sydney Coach, John Kosmina expects to face a much improved Reds outfit on Saturday.
“They-ll be a lot more competitive,” he said before flying out of Sydney today. “Adelaide have had a week to get over their Asian Cup schedule and I think they-ll be better off.”
Midfielder, Stuart Musialik added: “It-s going to be a tough trip to Adelaide with them bouncing back from the Champions League results. Their only focus at the moment is the A-League so they-re going to be up and ready for it and especially with Kossie going back to his old club, it-s always a big game.”
While they-re expecting no favours from United, the Sky Blues- focus at training over the last fortnight has been on improving their own game as they head into the business end of the season.
“Our form has been a bit patchy, it-s now about getting some consistency,” said Kosmina. “We-ve done a lot of football related stuff in the last couple of weeks and hopefully that will stand us in good stead for the game tomorrow night.”
John Aloisi is set to make his much anticipated return to FC-s starting line-up in the Hindmarsh Stadium contest, where Sydney will look to add to its impressive record of seven wins from twelve clashes between the teams.
“As a player you always want to start games and play and play well but I-ve worked hard to get my spot back,” said the Marquee striker. “Hopefully I-ll keep it now and score a lot of goals by the end of the season.”
The round twelve match will kick-off at 7pm AEDT tomorrow night in Adelaide, with live coverage of the fixture on Fox Sports 1.
