In just over a week they’ll be in Melbourne getting ready to take on the world in the latest edition of the Homeless World Cup but today four Sydney-based members of the Street Socceroos paid a visit to Sydney FC training where they were farewelled by the Sky Blue brigade.
In just over a week they-ll be in Melbourne getting ready to take on players from around the planet in the latest edition of the Homeless World Cup but today four Sydney-based members of the Street Socceroos squad paid a visit to Sydney FC training where they were farewelled by the Sky Blue brigade.
Australia is one of 56 countries set to compete at the Cup, which will be staged in Melbourne-s Federation Square early next month.
Street Socceroos captain, Alex Marshall was one of those to attend FC-s session this-morning and he-s counting down the days until the opening match of the tournament.
“It-s an honour and a privilege to represent Australia and captain the team,” said Marshall. “The great thing about the homeless World Cup is each year it-s a new bunch of players. There-ll be players competing from all around the world and we-re in with a good shot. We-ve got the whole city of Melbourne behind us so it should be fantastic.”
FC captain, Steve Corica led the Sydney side in wishing the Street Socceroos well after his own team finalised preparations for its crucial Hyundai A-League clash with Adelaide United.
“It-s great that the guys could come out to training today and I-m sure they-ll do us all proud down in Melbourne,” said Corica. “We all face challenges in life but the Street Socceroos have had to deal with more than most and we wish them every success, on and off the field.”
The Homeless World Cup will be staged over seven days in Melbourne starting on December 1.
