Sydney FC-s National Youth League team has outlined its intentions to do the unthinkable and record a perfect season with the young-guns notching up their eighth consecutive victory, in a dominant 3-0 display against the second-placed Queensland Roar in difficult conditions tonight at the Sydney Football Stadium.
Adam Biddle put the home side ahead early, before second half goals to Sean Rooney and Kerim Bulut rounded out the whitewash as the Sky Blues remained the benchmark of the National Youth Competition.
With the players returning from an early delay, the result of an electrical storm, Sydney began to dominate possession and could have claimed the lead quickly, with Chris Payne scuffing a promising chance on goal.
The home side continued to attack and was rewarded when Biddle latched onto the end of a Chris Triantis free kick, following up his initial attempt to slot home the opener in the 14th minute of the match.
As the visitors pushed up the field looking for a quick reply Matthew Jurman brought down Joshua McVey just outside the box, and Adam Sarota went within inches of levelling up the scores with his free kick grazing off the crossbar.
Queensland continued to move the ball into the attacking third but was unable to crack the Sydney defence and the Sky Blues took their advantage into the break.
The second half saw the home side take charge of the match and when Rooney controlled a speculative cross and slammed the ball into the back of the net from six yards out FC looked home with 17 minutes remaining.
Minutes later Rhyan Grant added the icing, finding Bulut in the box who then calmly slotted the ball low past the Roar keeper to begin some early celebrations for Sydney in front of the home fans.
The hosts enjoyed a late flurry of chances and could easily have extended the scoreline, but they were unable to convert and settled for a comfortable 3-0 victory to keep their impressive record in-tact.
The young Sky Blues will look to take their last remaining scalp next Saturday when they travel to take on Newcastle Jets for the first time at Adamstown Oval.
