Hyundai A-Leage action returns to the Harbour City this weekend when Sydney FC hosts old enemy, Brisbane at the SFS on Sunday.
With Brisbane suffering a dramatic slide since its 1-nil win over Sydney in round-8 you could be forgiven for thinking the Sky Blues may be expecting easy revenge against the out-of-form Roar on Sunday. Instead they know they-re in for a battle, but they-re determined to get three points out of the game.
After new coach, Ange Postecoglou took the helm of the Queensland team this week, Vitezslav Lavicka-s men know they-ll face a very different side to the one that lost 3-0 to Central Coast last week and have prepared themselves for a fight.
“Normally, (when) a new coach comes in it is a danger game,” said Sydney Captain, Steve Corica ahead of the round-12 clash.
“(It) does lift the players and it gives the other players, that aren-t playing, a chance of getting in the starting eleven and having a go. It-s definitely going to be a difficult game for us. “
The Sky Blues suffered a surprise loss to Adelaide last Friday but they have taken some positives from that performance and are confident of returning quickly to the winners list.
“We watched the video of the game again during the week (and) we did create enough chances (against Adelaide). “ Corica said at Friday-s training session.
“We still didn-t play as well as we had in the last couple of games, but we-ve worked hard this week at training to put things right and hopefully it will be a better performance this week.”
Sydney is winless against Brisbane in its last eight outings but has never lost to the Roar at the SFS. Despite last week-s defeat the Sky Blues remain in second place on the Hyundai A-League ladder and they-re keen to cement their status as one of the competition-s top teams.
“The best teams are playing consistent, we are going to be best team,” said Coach Lavicka. “We are going to improve our last performance and be successful.”
Sunday-s crucial clash between Sydney and Brisbane will kick-off at 5:00pm at the Sydney Football Stadium following the Westfield W-League curtain-raiser between the two teams.
