Chris Payne scored two goals in the National Youth League Match.
Two goals to Chirs Payne wasn’t enough to get Sydney FC home against Perth Glory in the National Youth League.
Perth defeated Sydney 3-2 in the A League curtain raiser at ME Bank Stadium after Dean Evans scored his first ever goal in the competition to seal the victory ten minutes from full time.
But it was a fighitng effort from Sydney, who were down two-nil inside the first 30 minutes through a double to Eugene Dadi.
Things looked grim before Payne stepped up, scoring before half-time against the run of play and again in the 64th minute.
Payne had a chance for a hat-trick with 18 minutes to go but his shot was well wide.
The match looked headed for a draw until Evans headed home what turned out to be the match winner.
Sydney would be entitled to be disappointed with the loss but they showed good composure fighitng back from a two nil deficit and will be pleased by the efforts of Payne who was a standout for the visitors.
