Champions announce three more preseason clashes

Sydney FC today announced the addition of three exciting preseason fixtures to kick-off their title defence.

Hyundai A-League 2010 Champions Sydney FC today announced the addition of three exciting preseason fixtures to kick-off their title defence.

The matches will be played against local opposition from the NSW state leagues and will be the perfect lead in to the club-s blockbuster clash against English Premier League giants Everton on Saturday 10 July at ANZ Stadium.

In their first game since being crowned A-League champions, the Sky Blues will take on Manly United on Tuesday 15 June at Cromer Park.

The Sky Blues will then head west to take on the Macarthur Rams on Tuesday 22 June at Campbelltown Stadium. It will be the second time in two years that the teams have met, following their thrilling match at Lynwood Park last year which Sydney FC won 1-0.

Next up for the Champions will be the Marconi Stallions at Marconi Stadium on Wednesday 30 June. Currently sitting second on the TeleChoice NSW Premier League table, Marconi, one of the most famous clubs on the domestic football scene, will provide stiff opposition for Vitezslav Lavicka-s men.

The matches also provide a great boost for the local community with all money raised from the matches going directly back to the respective clubs.

“These matches will be an important part of our preseason. We are not playing as many games as we did last year so the matches are even more crucial to being ready for round one against Melbourne,” Lavicka said.

“It is important that we play against the state league clubs in preseason. We are able to try a few different things, trial some players and work on our game plan.

“It is great that we take games to other parts of the city. We have fans all around and these games are close to families.

Sydney FC will feature new signings Scott Jamieson, goalkeeper Liam Reddy and Qantas Socceroos regular Nicky Carle as well as established stars Alex Brosque, Mark Bridge, Terry McFlynn and Shannon Cole.

“This type of preparation will also give some of our younger boys and new players a chance to play together for the first time in a proper match,” Lavicka said.

“Like last season, we will take it step-by-step but it is important to use these games to build for the new season. We have a long season ahead so working on things now is very important for the team.

“It is also nice to play all over Sydney. I meet many nice people last time. I like to see our fans follow us but it is a good opportunity for new fans to watch Sydney FC.”

The clashes against Manly and Macarthur will kick-off at 7pm while the game against Marconi will start at 7:30pm.
