Sydney FC”s Grand Final goal scoring hero Mark Bridge is ready for anything ahead of the Sky Blues title defence.
Sydney FC striker Mark Bridge is ready to step up and fill the void John Aloisi left when departing the Harbour City at season-s end.
Bridge, 24, has joined team-mates in full training recently and cannot wait for the defence of Sydney FC-s title.
“I hope we can be the first team to defend our title and win it back to back,” Bridge said.
“We all know it is quite difficult and to add to it everyone loves playing Sydney.
“Last year w did everything that we had planned for by winning the minor premiership and championship so it was great.
“But the boys are working hard in the pre-season and hopefully we can do it.
The Nepean junior combined well with Sydney FC team mate Alex Brosque in last season-s triumph, and says the combination is imperative to another successful season.
“Brosquey and I do compliment our games very well,– he said.
“Now that Johnny has left we know we have to step up even more and we are eager to score goals every week.
“Hopefully we can get that combination going again from early in the season.–
Bridge is also looking forward to re-uniting with former Newcastle Jets team mate Nick Carle for the Sky Blues.
“I am very excited that Nicky has signed on with us,– Bridge said.
“It was always going to be hard to replace Steve Corica but I think we have gotten the perfect number 10. Nicky has great skill, a very high work ethic and will fit in well.
“I played with Nicky at Newcastle so we know each other-s game pretty well. Hopefully we can make it very entertaining for the Sydney fans.–
With the Socceroos in South Africa ready to compete in their second consecutive World Cup, Bridge weighed in on the debate on how they will go, as well as stating his ambitions with the national team.
“I don-t know about getting into the Socceroos team this season but my aim is definitely to be in the team for the next World Cup,– Bridge said.
“I think the boys will do well but it is very hard to say. It will definitely be an interesting World Cup which I can-t wait for.–
