After 49 Hyundai A-League games for Adelaide, played mostly at left back, Scott Jamieson had never scored a goal.
Two games into his Sydney FC career, and combined with a more attacking role, the 21-year-old broke his goal scoring duck, calmly heading away the Sky Blues equaliser against the North Queensland Fury at Dairy Farmers Stadium on Saturday night.
Although he found the back of the net for the first time and enjoyed the feeling, Jamieson said he was more focused on snaring a win in this Saturday night-s clash with the Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium (7:30pm kick-off).
“It was fantastic,” Jamieson said. “But in the circumstances, being 1-nil down and in the end losing left an empty feeling but I am really happy that the monkey is off the back and I never thought I would score a goal with my head let alone it being my first goal. I am happy.”
“Since making the switch from Adelaide I haven-t looked back and coming into the team and working under fantastic coaches and a very talented bunch of players has been really good for me.
“I am just trying to do my bit for the team. Hopefully this week we can turn it around.”
Jamieson admitted he did occasionally think he may never bag one and also revealed that his first goal had a twofold effect.
“It was getting that way. I have had people on my back about scoring goals and I-ve told them it was going to come so thankfully it happened this week,” Jamieson said.
“I-ve actually got a bet with Travis Dodd for who is going to score more goals this season so I am pretty happy about that.”
Even though it is early days, the Blacktown junior said he was relishing his move to up pitch since joining Hyundai A-League champions Sydney FC.
“I am enjoying it. I am just trying to do what is best for the team,” he said. “The results haven-t gone our way yet but hopefully with better performances from everyone individually including myself we can get some results.”
