Sydney FC can confirm one of its Isuzu Ute A-League Men’s players has tested positive for Covid-19 today.
The infectious person, who is fully vaccinated, received a positive PCRT result this afternoon, following a test early yesterday, after becoming symptomatic on Sunday night.
All of Sydney FC’s players and football staff have undergone subsequent PCR testing and have taken daily rapid antigen tests as a matter of APL procedure.
At this stage, no other person has reported feeling unwell or returned a positive test, and following advice from NSW Health tomorrow night’s FFA Cup Round of 16 clash with Macarthur FC WILL go ahead as planned.
Chief Executive Officer Danny Townsend said: “We have taken every precaution necessary to ensure the safety of our players and staff, who are considered casual contacts.
“No further players or staff members have reported any symptoms, however they have all taken tests to be sure.
“Sydney FC and the APL follow the strongest protocols to ensure we minimize any risk to our staff, players and Members and fans, and hopefully there will be no further cases as a result of these procedures.
“Our medical team have been in regular contact with the player in question and have been providing advice.
“He has only minor symptoms and is in good spirits.”
Sydney FC’s Liberty A-League Women’s squad remain unaffected and will continue to train and play matches.
