Sydney FC today opened its doors to a future generation of young stars with the inaugural Sydney FC High Performance School Holiday Clinic at the Sky Blues- Macquarie University Training Ground, held over the next four days.

More than 100 budding Sydney FC stars will go through a three day coaching course at Macquarie University under the watchful eye of Sydney FC Assistant Coach and NYL Coach Ian Crook and Sydney FC Premiership Player Hayden Foxe.

As part of the Sydney FC Community Program, Sky Blues players will spend some time working with the players on the opening day to inspire the youngsters, many of whom are already playing junior representative football.

“It-s a great initiative by Sydney FC,” said midfielder Nick Carle, after spending an hour on the pitch with the kids. “As a Club it is important to not only allow the junior kids to come along and have some fun in the School Holidays but also to keep an eye out for future stars.

“As Sydney FC players we spend a lot of time at junior soccer clubs as part of our Community Program and this is a fantastic initiative to bring the kids to our training ground to let them see what it is like in a professional environment.”

The players will be schooled on the technical aspects of football to instil good habits as they start the long road towards becoming professional football players.

There is also a specific course for goalkeepers, which will be overseen by Sydney FC Goalkeeper Coach Zeljko “Spider” Kalac, and parents will also attend a seminar on Tuesday to learn more about the dietary and sleeping habits required.

At the end of the three day camp a “select” group of players will spend an extra day under closer scrutiny from Crook, Foxe, Kalac and Sydney FC Head of Human Performance Craig Duncan.

“The High Performance Clinics have been put together to help develop junior players,” Crook said. “We want to teach them the skills they need to play at a high level and teach them good habits. Both are crucial to the development of young players.

“After the initial three days we-ll identify some of the more talented players and put them through an intensive day of training and testing with a view to future Sydney FC Youth Teams.”
