Matildas Kyah Simon and Caitlin Foord are on a shortlist of five women after outstanding international seasons.
In the men-s category ex-Sydney FC striker Alex Brosque is nominated along with Brett Holman, Josh Kennedy, Lucas Neill and Luke Wilkshire, while Elise Kellond-Knight, Emily Van Egmond and Lydia Williams make up the nominees for the women-s award.
The winner is voted for by the Football Media Association and will be announced on June the 13th after the World Cup qualifier against Japan in Brisbane.
Tim Cahill (2009), Mark Schwarzer (2010) and Brett Holman (2011) have won the trophy previously, while this is first year of the women-s award.
