Sydney FC will look for fresh fortunes in the New Year after an injury ravaged side were beaten 3-0 by Adelaide United.
The Sky Blues were again without first teamers Kruno Lovrek, Jason Culina, Joel Chianese, Fabio, Paul Reid, Nathan Sherlock, Pascal Bosschaart, Ivan Necevski and Alessandro Del Piero while Ali Abbas was suspended after picking up a fifth yellow card.
The absenteeism gave Head Coach Frank Farina the chance to again blood youngsters Peter Triantis and Blake Powell in the starting line-up, while 16 year old Aaron Calver, 17 year old Hagi Gligor and 18 year old Alec Urosevski were selected on the bench.
Sydney began confidently with Triantis firing a good shot on target which was saved, while Emerton headed McFlynn-s cross just wide of the post.
But the Sky Blues were forced into an early change with centre half Adam Griffiths coming off through injury to be replaced by 16 year old Aaron Calver.
Powell had a chance within minutes but his run was blocked after a flick down from Yau.
The Reds were ahead on 18 minutes. Cassio found space down the left and crossed to Vidosic to flick a looping header into the top left hand corner of Janjetovic-s net to make it 1-0 for the Reds.
Ten minutes later Adelaide doubled their lead. Djite went down in the box while running across a challenge from Ryall and Vidosic stepped up to slot home the spot kick.
Adelaide struck the cross bar before half time but their 2-0 advantage was maintained at the break, despite a good run and cross from Yau.
Sydney made two attacking substitutions within eleven minutes of the restart with Hagi Gligor and Alec Urosevski replacing Antonis and McFlynn shortly before the hour mark.
However the positivity was reduced when Djite brushed Ryall off the ball in a defensive position to attempt a clear shot on goal. Janjetovic got down well to save the shot from the right hand side of the box but could only parry the ball into the path of Iain Ramsey who slotted into an empty net.
The 3-0 scoreline didn-t dampen Sydney spirits with Grant having a shot on goal, but the Reds were also keen to add to their tally with Janjetovic making some good saves and the woodwork coming to the Sky Blues rescue.
Sydney FC’s next home game will be a Finals Series six-pointer against the Melbourne Heart on Sunday 13th January. Tickets are available from Ticketek starting at just $25 for adults. Kick off is at 5pm. It should be an occasion to bring all the family.
