From the fans: Rivalry with Macarthur FC growing

The battle between our Sydney FC and Macarthur Bulls reignites this week in the Isuzu Ute A-League Men’s youngest rivalry.

Sydney’s third professional team came into the league just last year amongst Covid-19 restrictions and a myriad of promises to represent the South-West corridor of Sydney. One of those promises was to sign a marquee player to bring excitement to the fans but little did we know they would be targeting Sydney FC hero Milos Ninkovic.

From a fan perspective, losing possibly our greatest ever player to a new, not yet noisy neighbour would have been absolutely devastating and it felt like it was a real possibility for a time. Fortunately, as we all know, Milos remains at Sydney FC and his decision to shun the Bulls would come back to haunt them in our first ever clash at Campbelltown Stadium, where he scored a truly magical goal in between a finishing masterclass by then 18yo Patrick Wood – to remind them just what they missed out on.

The return leg in season 20/21 hurt – a frustrating afternoon at Kogarah after going down 1-0 on the back of an exceptional run from Markel Susaeta to set up Matt Derbyshire for a tap in. Shortly after, Paulo Retre saw Red for a studs up challenge into the knee of Jake McGing and the afternoon turned sour. The frustration though was not being able to put the ball in the net despite golden opportunities to salvage something and not let their fans walk away with all 3 points.

This week we right those wrongs at our home ground against a very different looking Bulls side still trying to fulfill promises made on and off the pitch, whilst our boys will be looking for a first win of the campaign to propel our season forward. Looking forward to reigniting the rivalry with our youngest brother. Time to keep them quiet so we don’t have to put in a noise complaint. Cowbells…really?
