North Sydney United FC were the first club to host Sydney FC-s players this week, as Sasa Ognenovski and Daniel Petkovski were welcomed to Cammeray Oval.
On the same night Hagi Gligor and Ivan Necevski visited Blacktown City FC, with the Sydney FC shot stopper returning to Lily Homes Stadium for the first time since he departed Blacktown City to sign with the Sky Blues.
On Tuesday it was the turn of Earlwood Wanderers FC to accommodate the Sky Blues stars as Peter Triantis, Vedran Janjetovic and Matthew Jurman made a special visit to Earlwood Wanderers to be part of their “Your Local Club” presentation.
Earlwood Wanderers Secretary Jim Tatsis entered Earlwood into Sydney FC-s “Local Club of the Week” competition, and it was Tatsis- detailing of the community input from Earlwood Wanderers FC that won the club a $500 grant from Sydney FC-s major partner, St. George Bank.
Tatsis said the evening was great and he was grateful for Sydney FC and St. George Bank providing for the local grassroots clubs.
“The players were great ambassadors for Sydney FC and football,” he said.
“A great night was had by all in attendance at Earlwood Oval as the Sydney FC boys mingled and trained with EWFC-s junior boys and girls and I was immensely impressed with the selflessness and patience demonstrated by the Sydney FC players.
“Whilst all knew that the players were scheduled to leave by 7pm, they stayed on till late so all EWFC junior players (in excess of 100) had a chance to speak and/or play with them,” he continued.
“It is very much appreciated that St George Bank along with Sydney FC contributes to grass roots clubs through financial and volunteering support. The long term benefit to football and volunteer run clubs with such support cannot be underestimated.
“Thank you to St George Bank and Sydney FC.”
Shellharbour Junior FC were the final club to have Sky Blues players visit as young striker Corey Gameiro put the junior squads through their paces at Barrack Heights Sports Fields, before posing with the juniors for photos and autographs.
Sydney FC-s squad will be out in force for the remainder of this week as a whole range of clubs prepare to welcome the players to their home grounds. With five visits each scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, this third week of community visits is set to be bigger than ever.
