Star duo reveal moment they received Matildas call-up

Sydney FC duo Charlize Rule and Jessika Nash both expressed their excitement with the pair both being called into the Matildas squad for the upcoming matches against the USA on 27th and 30th November.

The pair received call-ups to the national side for the first time and will link up with teammate Remy Siemsen and the rest of the squad later this week.

Charlize couldn’t contain her excitement when she was delivered the news.

“I couldn’t believe it when I got the news, I wanted to call my family as soon as possible but no one was answering their phone!”

“I’ve been playing with Jess for a while now and I’m excited to go into camp with her.”

For Jessika Nash, she was in her study period at school when she was delivered the news from Charlize via a text message.

“I was studying at school and I received a text from Charlize congratulating me and I had no idea what it was about. I checked my emails and saw that I had been selected and I started getting a bit emotional and told my mum who started crying over the phone. I was beyond excited,” Nash said.

The pair are thrilled to be training alongside some of their childhood heroes and will be looking to absorb as much as they can from the two matches.

“As a centre back, I’d love to learn as much as possible from Alana Kennedy and Claire Polkinghorne, I always looked up to them as a youngster and to be able to learn from them and play alongside them will be a dream come true,” Nash said.

“To be able to rub shoulders with idols like Sam Kerr and Ellie Carpenter and see how they train and approach games will be something I’m really looking forward to,” Rule said.

With the Women’s team now well and truly underway in pre-season, Rule is excited about what her and her Sydney FC teammates can achieve this season.

“Last season was my first season, I’m looking forward to taking in as much as I can from the Matildas camp into Sydney FC for the new season.”
