Junior Matildas Return to Sydney FC Ready for New Season

Sydney FC’s seven Junior Matildas have returned from the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, bringing invaluable international experience back to the Sky Blues ahead of the remainder of the Ninja A-League Women’s season.

After representing Australia on the world stage, the young Sky Blues are turning their attention back to club football, eager to build on their experiences and make their mark in Sydney FC colours.

The tournament provided an opportunity for the players to test themselves against some of the world’s most exciting young footballing talent, experiencing different playing styles, conditions and the demands of international competition.

For Sydney FC’s Rubi Sullivan, the experience was another important step in her development, having already gained international experience at Under-20 level alongside her appearances in the Ninja A-League.

While Sullivan entered the tournament with valuable senior football experience under her belt, she was quick to acknowledge the quality of the younger players around her.

“Any chance that I get to play for my national team is always a great honour,” Sullivan said.

“Every single team that I represent, I take with great pride.

“A lot of the girls in the squad are super, super talented, and I count myself lucky to even be involved in squads like this.”

With seven Sydney FC players selected in Australia’s World Cup squad, the tournament also highlighted the exciting generation of young talent emerging through the Sky Blues’ ranks.

For Sullivan, seeing so many familiar faces representing their country was a source of pride, and she believes the experience will only benefit the group as they return to domestic football.

“As you can see with the amount of girls that we have at Sydney FC, with seven girls included in the squad, the talent is there,” she said.

“I’m actually just super excited to see these girls continue to push on, and this season get even more A-League minutes.”

Having experienced the intensity of international football, Sullivan is equally determined to take the next step in her own development as she returns to the Sky Blues.

“I myself would also like to really push on for trying to solidify a starting spot in the team this season,” she said.

The return of the Junior Matildas provides another boost for Sydney FC as the squad continues its Ninja A-League Women campaign, with the young players now looking to translate their World Cup experiences into opportunities at club level.

From representing their country in Morocco to pulling on the Sky Blue jersey once again, the next chapter is already underway for Sydney FC’s rising stars.

And with international experience behind them and a full season of opportunities ahead, the future looks bright for the next generation of Sky Blues.
