Sydney FC will support goalkeeper Alyse Oppedisano through her recovery after she ruptured her left ACL while training with the CommBank Junior Matildas.
Oppedisano is set to depart Australia’s World Cup camp, with arrangements being made for her return home.
Sydney FC Head Coach James Slaveski said the news was particularly difficult given the opportunity for Oppedisano to represent her country on the world stage.

“She’s currently away with the national team at a World Cup, so it’s kind of a dream situation for her to be representing her country at a World Cup,” Slaveski said.
“To go down at training in the way that she did is really disappointing and we all feel for her.”
Oppedisano has been receiving care from the CommBank Junior Matildas medical team, with Football Australia and Sydney FC liaising on the next steps in her treatment.
“It’s really tough to suffer an injury like this, especially knowing from experience what lies ahead, but I’m ready to put in the work, build myself back up and come back stronger than ever,” Oppedisano said.
Slaveski said the goalkeeper would remain an important part of the Sky Blues squad throughout her rehabilitation, with the club’s medical staff supporting her recovery.

“She’s a first-team player. She’s a contracted player with us,” he said.
“We’ve got the best physio staff in the league, in my opinion, and she’ll get everything that she needs.”
Everyone at Sydney FC wishes Alyse well in her recovery and looks forward to welcoming her back to the club.
