Sydney FC have secured the signing of one of Australia and New Zealand’s brightest young defensive prospects, with recently turned 17-year-old Academy graduate, Ethan Dyer, signing his first professional contract.
The highly-rated central defender has agreed to a three-year deal after impressing new Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo and goes straight into the squad to face Bayswater SC in the Hahn Australia Cup 2026 tomorrow night.
Sutherlandshire born Dyer is captain of New Zealand’s Under 17’s having qualified to play for the Kiwi’s through his father.
Kisnorbo – a centre-half himself – believes Dyer can develop into a very good player.
“Ethan is a talented young defender with a bright future ahead of him and already possesses a lot of excellent attributes.
“He’s composed on the ball, reads the game well, defends aggressively when he needs to and has shown a real willingness to learn and improve every day.
“He has developed well through our Academy, which is a credit to the work Ethan has put in and to the coaches who have helped him along the way.
“We are looking forward to working with him in the first-team environment and helping him continue his development.”
Dyer said signing his first professional contract with the club was a proud moment for both himself and his family.
“It’s a huge honour to sign my first professional contract with Sydney FC and something I’ve been dreaming about since joining the Academy.
“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone at the club who has helped me develop and believed in me and this is a special moment for me and my family.
“I know this is just the start and I want to do everything I can to keep improving every day.”
Dyer is in his fourth season with the club having joined at under 14 level from Sutherland Sharks.
