Berger To Step Down From Sydney FC Board

Sydney FC Board Member and Technical Director Han Berger will step down from the Sky Blues Board at the end of the Isuzu-UTE A-Leagues 2025–26 season.

Berger joined the Sydney FC Board in 2014 and has been key to shaping the club’s football philosophy, structure and player development pathways.

During his time on the Board, Sydney FC established itself as Australia’s most successful football club.

Together with Technical Director Youth Kelly Cross, Berger also led the creation and growth of the Sydney FC Academy with 70 players progressing into professional football contracts since its foundation.

Sydney FC Chairman, Dr Jan Hendrik Voss paid tribute to Berger’s contribution.

“Over the past twelve years Han has helped guide the club during some of our most successful times.

“His football knowledge, global experience and calm leadership have been invaluable to our Board and our football department.

“He helped build the structures that underpin our successful Academy which continues to produce outstanding young players for Sydney FC and Australian football.

“On behalf of Sydney FC I want to thank Han for his enormous contribution and legacy he leaves.”

Berger said it had been a privilege to help shape Sydney FC’s football direction.

“It has been a tremendous honour to serve Sydney FC and help guide the club’s football strategy and technical development,” he said.

“I am very proud of what we have achieved including the success of the Men’s and Women’s teams and the development of the Academy.

“I have had great pleasure representing Sydney FC across the World, I would like to thank all the great people I have worked with during my time at the club. I will watch its future success with great pride.”

Berger will continue to be involved in football in Holland, his homeland where he is based, as board member of FC Groningen in the Dutch Eredivisie and working for the Royal Dutch Football Association’s Technical Director education programs.
