Home Comfort Fuelling Devenish-Meares Form

Sky Blues goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares has attributed his strong run of form this season to the support and proximity of his family.

After signing for Sydney FC at the commencement of the A-League 2024-25 season,
Devenish-Meares has played a total of 21 matches for the club this season and recorded a
commendable eight clean sheets.

The goalkeeper, who took over the starting spot in December 2024, believes that moving
back in with his Mum (pictured above) and her support has been paramount in his progression.

Tisserand and Devenish-Meares celebrate a clean sheet.

“It’s good for me, because I spent most of my career overseas, and she didn’t get to see any
games,” he said.

“Over eight years, she probably saw maybe two or three games in person.

“So, playing in my own city, she’s just down the road, she comes to every game. We sit and
debrief about every game. She’s just such a good supporter.

“I’m actually living at home at the moment,” he continued.

“I think [that] has really helped me, just to have that kind of stability and comfort and support
as well. I’m loving this experience.”

The 28-year-old goalkeeper is happy with his current form, and expressed his desire to
continuously improve and help the team out.

“I’ve put together a pretty good season personally.

“I think it was a good game for me on Tuesday night [vs Melbourne City]. [I] got to make a
few saves, especially one on one, but there’s still so much for me to improve on.

“I have so much more to give and I’m just happy that I get to come in every day and work on
myself and get better.”

Devenish-Meares and the rest of the team now look ahead to Sunday, where they play
Newcastle at home in a top of the table clash.

“You don’t get time to stop and lick your wounds. You’ve just got to get on with the next
game and I think we’re just going full steam ahead. We’ve got to pick up points on Sunday
against an exciting Jets squad.

“You play the season and then you go into the finals, in which anything can happen. We still
have to perform to finish as high up on the table as we can.”

The Sky Blues play the Newcastle Jets at home this Sunday, kicking off at 3pm at Allianz
Stadium.
