Sydney FC has secured the signing of Australian international striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos from Motherwell FC on a loan deal until the end of the Isuzu-UTE A-League 2025–26 season, with a buy option to make the move permanent.
Stamatelopoulos arrives at the Sky Blues with a strong pedigree in both domestic and international football and is available for three crucial home games in eight days starting at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.
The Socceroos forward brings a mix of experience, physicality, as well as proven goal-scoring instinct to Sydney FC’s attack.

The 26-year old has spent the past year and a half with Motherwell FC in the Scottish Premier League, having made a major impact in the A-League with a standout 2023–24 campaign with the Newcastle Jets scoring 17 goals in 25 games.
Stamatelopoulos broke through on the international stage making his debut for the Socceroos in 2024 against Palestine and remaining part of the World Cup qualification picture against China and Japan later that year.
Sydney FC Head Coach Ufuk Talay welcomed the addition and believes the striker will add important quality and depth at a decisive stage of the campaign.

“Apostolos adds real quality and competition to our attacking group,” Talay said.
“He’s a strong centre-forward with an excellent work rate, intelligent movement in the box and a proven ability to score goals in the A-League and overseas.
“His experience will be very valuable for us as we continue pushing towards the business end of the season
“Competition for places is critical in a successful squad, and his arrival lifts the level of our entire front line.”
Stamatelopoulos said he was thrilled to be joining Sydney FC and is eager to make an immediate impact.

“I’m extremely excited to join Sydney FC — the biggest club in the A-League with a winning culture and high expectations,” he said.
“After my time overseas, this is a fantastic opportunity for me and one I’m ready to embrace.
“There is still over a third of the season to play and I’ve come here to challenge for places, contribute goals and help the team push for the A-League title.
“I can’t wait to get started and play in front of the Sydney FC Members and fans.”
Stamatelopoulos arrives in Sydney on Wednesday night and will train with his new team mates on Friday morning for the first time.
