At Sydney FC, we believe football should be for everyone — and our Sydney FC Powerchair team is a huge part of making that happen. They’re not just representing the club on the court, they’re showing what’s possible when sport is truly inclusive.
Thanks to the support of the Sydney FC Foundation, our Sydney FC Powerchair program has helped over 160 participants get involved in free holiday clinics and community programs and events, all as part of our overall Sydney FC Empowers Me program offering. It’s all about creating opportunities for all, building important life skills including confidence, team work and resilience, along with sharing the love of the game with as many people as possible.
Powerchair activation ahead of the Newcastle Jets match
Over the weekend, five of our exceptional Sydney FC Powerchair players had the exciting opportunity to showcase their skills on the big stage at Allianz Stadium. With precision, determination, and a true passion for the game, the players delivered an engaging and high-energy display that entertained those watching.

The activation took place ahead of the Sydney FC A-League Men’s fixture against Newcastle Jets and drew the attention of fans and club members, including first-team
goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares. Harrison took a moment before kick-off to meet and chat with the Powerchair athletes, showing his support and highlighting the close-knit and inclusive nature of the Sydney FC family.
This special activation served as a powerful reminder of the importance of our Powerchair team within the broader club structure. It underscored Sydney FC’s commitment to inclusivity and the ongoing development of disability sport. Moments like these not only elevate awareness of Powerchair football but also highlight the need for continued investment and support, helping the program grow and creating more opportunities for athletes of all abilities to thrive in the sport they love.
APFA National Club Championships & Sydney derby matches against Western Sydney Wanderers
The Sydney FC Foundation recently attended the APFA (Australian Powerchair Football Association) National Club Championships in Brisbane. The team did fantastically, coming 5th in the tournament with 7 wins and 4 losses. This despite the team being the youngest in the tournament, which showcases the ability and positive future for the group of players, with 8 of the 9 players being 14 years or younger.
Upon their return, Sydney FC Foundation Board members, special guests, Sydney FC Foundation staff and A-League Women’s player, Jordan Thompson, were thrilled to support and cheer on our incredible Powerchair teams as they faced off against the Western Sydney Wanderers in a thrilling series of Sydney Derby fixtures.

The event was a celebration of skill, teamwork, and community spirit. Adding to the excitement was the electric atmosphere at Valentine Sports Park. The matches were played with exceptional sportsmanship and determination, with the Sydney FC Powerchair teams putting on a dominant display, securing impressive victories in both games—clinching a 5-1 win in the Premiership match and a commanding 5-0 triumph in the Championship match.
These outstanding results are a testament to the dedication and passion of our Powerchair athletes, coaches and parents, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts both on and off the court.
Meeting Douglas Costa, Jordan Thompson and Indiana Dos Santos
As part of a special Sydney FC Fan Engagement initiative, Powerchair players Joshua Ryan and George Teong were given an unforgettable experience last week, along with Jason Ryan, Sydney FC Powerchair coach and George’s father, Nathan. The group were able to be pitch side during the A-League Men’s warm-up, ahead of their match against Auckland FC

The group had an exclusive behind-the-scenes view of the team’s pre-match preparations and were warmly welcomed by several Sydney FC stars from both the A-League Men’s and Women’s squads. Among those who stopped by for a chat, photos, and words of encouragement were Sydney FC A-League Men’s superstar Douglas Costa, along with A-League Women’s stars Jordan Thompson and Indiana Dos Santos.
The experience highlighted Sydney FC’s commitment to building an inclusive and connected football community, where fans and players from all walks of life can come together to share their passion for the game.
Overall impact with powerchair
The Sydney FC Powerchair team is a proud and integral part of the Sydney FC family, representing the club with passion, skill, and determination both on and off the court.
Through our dedicated Sydney FC Powerchair Program, we’ve been able to provide life-changing opportunities for over 160 participants to take part in holiday clinics, community engagement events, and skill development sessions — all completely free of charge. These initiatives are designed to promote inclusion, boost confidence, and foster a love of football for individuals living with disabilities.
Through our Sydney FC Powerchair holiday clinics and other community sessions, we continue to build the NSW Powerchair Football competition for both our club and other competing clubs, with the emphasis on growing the sport and allowing more budding participants the opportunity to test their skills.

All program costs are fully funded by the Sydney FC Foundation, as part of our broader Sydney FC Empowers Me initiative—an ongoing commitment to ensuring football is accessible and inclusive for everyone, regardless of their physical abilities or background.
This program is not only about playing the game—it’s about building a supportive community, celebrating diversity, and empowering individuals through the power of sport.
