Sydney FC Win In Adelaide

Sydney FC have won a fiery contest against Adelaide United in an incredible game which finished 3-2 in a game in which they were a constant threat.  

The match from kick-off to the final whistle was full of intensity, end to end drama and an Adrian Segecic winner giving the Sky Blues all three points shifting them into the top six ahead of Wednesday’s Asian Champions League 2 semi-final in Singapore.

18’ | KLIMALA GOAL – Joe Lolley with a ball over the top for Patryk Klimala to chase down adding pressure to the Adelaide keeper who makes a big mistake gifting Klimala a simple opening goal for Sydney FC. 

23’ | DEVENISH MEARES BIG SAVE – Adelaide on the attack with Dylan Pierias with a one v one situation with Harrison Devenish-Meares who produces a top tier save against the Adelaide fullback. 

30’ | DEVENISH-MEARES ANOTHER HUGE SAVE – The ball comes across the Sydney fc box into the feet of Archie Goodwin who is denied a massive chance by a brilliant save from Devenish-Meares.  

46’ | GOODWIN EQUALISER – 30 seconds into the second half Adelaide United equalise through Archie Goodwin.

52’ | KLIMALA AT THE DOUBLE – Sydney FC have their lead back with Courtney- Perkins forcing the ball into the area for Patryk Klimala to smash the ball home. 

73’ | GOODWIN SECOND GOAL – The substitute Yaya Dukuly hanging the ball up across the goal for Archie Goodwin to head it home and. 

90+4’ | SEGECIC WINNER – Ouahim cuts the ball back to the feet of Adrian Segecic who shoots the ball straight at the keeper which is saved and then slots the rebound into the net dramatically giving Sydney FC the three points. 

Match Report  

Sydney FC have come away with a dramatic win beating Adelaide United 3-2 at Coopers Stadium in an entertaining contest moving the Sky Blues in the Finals places.

Patryk Klimala opened the scoring in the 18th minute following a catastrophe in the Adelaide backline giving the Polish striker an easy finish. 

Adelaide had two huge chances to capitalise late in the first half but were Harrison Devenish-Meares came up with two massive saves to maintain Sydney FC’s lead going into the halftime.

United stormed into the opening 30 seconds of the second half with Archie Goodwin equalising for the Reds following a right wing cross.

Sydney FC reclaimed the lead in the 52nd minute after Courtney Perkins crossed the ball and Klimala was again on hand to finish the parry by Vartuli in the Reds goal. 

Another twist in this exhilarating match occurred with substitute Yaya Dukuly producing a delightful cross delivering the ball straight onto the head of Adelaide’s centre forward Goodwin to head his second goal of the night and bring the Reds level. 

However with time running out, substitute Adrian Segecic made up for an earlier miss by finishing a chance at the second attempt, which he had created following a cut back from Ouahim.

The goal secured a much needed three points and puts the Sky Blues right in the middle of the Finals Series race.

What They Said: Ufuk Talay: “It wasn’t as pretty as we would’ve liked, but the boys worked hard, conceded some soft goals.

“Harrison had to make some very important saves especially in the first half but overall I’m pleased.

“I think this was a very important game for us moving forward so overall pleased that we got the result, but the football and the performance wasn’t great, but it got us over the line”.
