Hear from our new signing

Sydney FC has signed former Celtic and New York Red Bulls striker Patryk Klimala for the Isuzu-UTE A-League Men’s 2024-25 season.

The 26-year-old won the Scottish Premiership with Celtic and two Scottish Cups during his time at Parkhead and has played 11 times for Poland’s under 21’s scoring four goals.

He is known for his blistering pace and clinical finishing and comes to the Sky Blues on loan from Polish top-flight club Slask Wroclaw, with an option to buy next season.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Sydney FC at an extremely exciting time for the club and for the A-League,” he said.

“I’ve heard a lot about the passion for football in Australia, and I’m excited by Sydney FC’s playing style which suits my game, as well as our Asian Champions League campaign.

Klimala won a number of titles during his time with Celtic.

“I understand Sydney FC has a rich history of winning trophies and I’m eager to contribute and create a legacy.

“In short, I can’t wait to experience life down under.”

Klimala was a standout performer during his stint with the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer (MLS) with 14 goals and 11 assists across two seasons, alongside former Sky Blues striker Fabio Gomes.

Klimala will wear number 9 and has already started training with the squad

Sydney FC Head Coach Ufuk Talay believes Klimala will bring a fresh dimension to the Sky Blues attack.

“Patryk is a player we’ve had our eyes on for some time and he was absolutely our number one target so I’m delighted we’ve finally signed the deal,” he said.

“He’s got great speed, he is strong in the air, and his work rate is exceptional.

“He is the type of forward who is always a threat in behind the defence, and he will bring a lot of energy to the team.

Klimala was a stand out at New York Red Bulls out-scoring former Sky Blue Fabio Gomes.

“I really like his hunger to score goals and his determination to improve,” he continued.

“He’s still relatively young, and I believe he has a lot of potential to grow.

“We’re excited to see what he can bring to the squad this season, and I’m confident he will quickly become a fan favourite here at Sydney FC.”

Klimala’s arrival at Sydney FC marks another significant addition to the club’s attacking options, following the arrival of Brazilian superstar Douglas Costa last week.

The Polish frontman will wear the number 9 jersey and joins the Sky Blues in time for the first AFC Champions League hit out against Hong Kong side Eastern FC next Thursday 19th September – 7pm kick off.
