Sydney FC’s new number 9, Fabio Gomes, has hit the ground running as he trained for the first time in Sky Blue colours.
Based out of the new Sky Park training facility, Fabio was put through his paces as he attempts to get up to fitness ahead of the Australia Cup Quarter Final against Western United on Sunday afternoon at Leichhardt Oval.
Fabio was announced at Bondi Beach, an iconic location for Brazilians, in front of the press and while he tries to improve his English, he has been working hard in training.
He joined in with the main squad for the warm-up before breaking away from the group to focus on individual movements and touches on the ball.
Sydney FC Captain Luke Brattan gave us an insight as to how he is settling in.
“Obviously any new signing takes time to settle into a new environment but considering English is his second language, I’ve been very impressed with Fabio.
“He is still learning English so Portuguese speakers Maxxy [Burgess] and Cass [Caceres] are helping translate sessions and around the building,” Brattan said.
After going for a jog with Fabio earlier this week, the Captain was pleased with Fabio’s off field presence.
“Being in a brand new country and not speaking the language, Fabio is a very relaxed and chill guy which is great to see.
“I’m looking forward to him getting up to fitness and becoming part of the squad this season,” Brattan concluded.
