Alen Stajcic, Sydney FC Hall of Fame inductee and former Women’s Head Coach has made history with the Philippines Women’s National Team.
Stajcic has taken charge of the team hailing from one of Asia’s smaller countries and seen them rise up in the rankings and now playing in the country’s first FIFA World Cup, male or female.
After making that history, the 49 year old coach who led Sydney FC to their first W-League title in 2009/10, has guided the Philippines to their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup victory over co-hosts New Zealand.
Sarina Bolden was their goalscorer who nodded home their first ever goal and when the full time whistle went with the Kiwis unable to find the net, joyous scenes erupted from the benches with many running to Alen Stajcic to congratulte him for the job that he has done with the side.
“I’ve got everyone else’s tears all over my eyes. It’s so emotional,” Stajcic said post game.
“You saw how long New Zealand had to wait for their first win, five or six World Cups. To get it today, the players gave everything they had.”
